Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of heroes who will separate from the primary party to begin their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the developments of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.
Casimir then cleared his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each character has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants retribution.
- The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous place.
- The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
- However, their position as important members in the influential clan could enable the party access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, Teor vowed a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the family.
This results in them few options but to travel to the remote area in search of Casimir.
Future Episodes
From episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Questers and Schemers tables.
