The former Brazilian leader has been detained after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under domestic detention.

The one-time leader was sentenced of planning a government overthrow in last fall and handed more than over two decades in jail, but he remained under confinement pending court reviews.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Justice Moraes said the decision to arrest the elderly politician was a precautionary step after fresh information were revealed.

This encompassed trying to remove his ankle monitor and a invitation to a supporters' gathering that could facilitate a potential flight.
